Setting up the Ideal Home Poker Game

Home Poker games remain popular, even with the rise of casinos and online card rooms. For a lot of people nothing beats the atmosphere of playing the actual game with your friends. If you want to play at home, then you should consider a few things so that not only will you have fun, but also make some money off your buddies too.

Of course the first thing that you should do is make sure you have the proper accessories. Poker chips come in a wide variety of numbers, and quality. A 500 chip set is good enough for up to seven players in a regular Texas Holdem game.

As for the kind of Poker chip you should get, it should be the best you can afford, so that you will not end up buying replacements over and over. Some good plastic chips are available for $30, and will usually come with two card decks. That is something that you should also consider, as playing for extended periods can easily ruin a deck. Of course, a dealer button would also be nice.

As for how it is played, home Poker games are generally played in two ways: the friendly game, wherein the bets are minimal, or the wild ones, wherein everybody raises and pays to see the flop. Either way, there are ways that you can make money off them.

If the bets are small, or the players just tight, you should encourage some loose plays. You can do this by playing some marginal hands, and pay to see the flop. If you do this in the first few hands, it will loosen up the other Poker players, and they will likely put in more dollars as well. When this takes place, you can play more reservedly.

If the home Poker game is very loose, then you should take the opposite tact. If your buddies are throwing money in the pot, you should just let them play that way. Although you may be tempted to join the action, be content with folding your hand. Only when you get good hands should you bet hard. It does not have to be premium holdings, as they are likely playing with marginal hands most fo the time anyway.

Other things that you should do is encourage talk and have plenty of food and drinks. By having distractions around, the Poker game will not be their main focus. Let your friends enjoy themselves, while you concentrate on playing the game and making money.
